time you have a “Reading Response Choice” assignment, you may choose a response
activity from the chart below. Pay
attention to whether your book is fiction or nonfiction. When you complete an assignment, please fill
in the date you completed the assignment and the title and author of the book
you responded to on the chart below.

Directions for Reading Responses

Read
for 20 minutes every day. Be sure to
choose a mix of fiction and nonfiction books.
You can also read magazine or newspaper articles!

a Reading Response Activity from the back of this page. Make sure you know if your book is fiction or
nonfiction!

You
may use the same book for more than one Reading Response. Since you are probably reading chapter books,
it might take a while to finish one book.
·
Please
write each Reading Response on a piece of loose leaf.
·
Each
Reading Response should be 10 or more sentences.
·
Reading
Responses should include 2 or more details from the book.
·
Anything
you write about should include reasons WHY.
For example, don’t just tell what happens in your favorite part, also
tell WHY it was your favorite part.
·
A great Reading Response involves making
a connection between what you read and something in your life. You can make a connection to something that
happened to you, something you read about in another book, something you saw in
a movie, or something that happened to someone you know.

Summer Math Assignment for Incoming 3rd Graders

Complete your Summer Solutions book. Please work on a few pages each week to keep your skills sharp! Please bring your completed Summer Solutions book to school on the first full day in September. This assignment will count as a grade.
Summer Reading Assignment for Incoming 3rd Graders
· Read for 20 minutes every day. Be sure to choose a mix of fiction and nonfiction books. You can also read magazine or newspaper articles!
· Complete 4 Reading Response choice activities on loose leaf paper during the summer. Directions are on a separate page.
· Please bring your Reading Responses to school on the first full day in September. These assignments will also be graded.
You may choose any books to read, but if you’d like some help,
here are a few great books for 3rd graders! Or use the

3rd Grade Supply List for 2015-16
3rd Grade Supply List for 2015-16
1 – package of pencils (sharpened at home)
1 – large plain eraser (only plain erasers are allowed in the classroom)
1 – SOFT pencil case for supplies (pencils, crayons, erasers, etc.)
1 – glue stick
1 – pair of child’s scissors
1 – 12 inch ruler (with inches AND centimeters)
1 – small box of crayons (no more than 24)
1 – yellow highlighter
1 – red pen
1 – package of loose leaf paper
1 - package of 3x5 index cards
1 – box of tissues (You will likely be asked to bring in a 2nd box of tissues in January!)
1 – two-pocket folder
4 – black and white marble composition books. Please label the books with your child’s name only. We will be labeling in a special way in September.
Labeling all supplies with your child’s name is a great idea!
1 – roll of paper towels (Last names A-K only)
1 – package of baby wipes (Last names L-R only)
1 – bottle of hand sanitizer (Last names S-Z only)
$20 fee for the following supplies:
· SFA assignment pad
· SFA folder
· Craft supplies
Please send the fee in an envelope labeled “3rd grade supply fee” and your child’s name. Cash is preferred. Thank you!
Please note:
*Supplies may need to be replenished throughout the year.
*Specials Teachers (Art, Italian, Music) may request specific supplies for their classes in September.
*Bookbags must be worn or carried (not rolled or dragged) at all times in the
building. Please keep this in mind when choosing a backpack. Backpacks with
wheels may be too heavy for younger children to carry.

Dear Future 3rd
Graders,
I
am so excited to meet you and begin our year together in September! I hope you enjoy time with your family and
friends, have some fun vacations, relax, and have a great summer. 3rd grade is a very important year
and I know you will want to spend some time this summer preparing. I encourage you to read every day and work
on a few pages in your Summer Solutions Math Book each week. By doing a little bit of work each week, you
will ensure that you do not forget the skills you learned in 2nd
grade, and you will begin 3rd grade ready to learn new things!
I
hope you will read several books this summer!
Please complete 4 Reading Response choice activities from the attached
sheet on separate pieces of loose leaf paper.
Please bring your Reading Responses and your completed Summer Solutions
book to school on the first full day.
Please
review the 3rd grade supply list on the back of this page so you can
be prepared for school in September. If
